TO THE RC CAR COMMUNITY
Dear All
Mr Ted Longshaw
I am desperately sad to inform you that Ted Longshaw died on 6th September. As many of you might know, Ted had been unwell for some time.
During the spring here in the UK, he was especially poorly, but rallied somewhat during our summer. His rapid deterioration in the last week, was therefore, so unexpected for his family. His breathing had become increasingly laboured and he slipped peacefully away on Tuesday in the early afternoon.
The funeral arrangements are being finalised by his family. His son tells me that there is likely to be a private cremation on 21st September, followed by a memorial service at Downe Church (in Ted’s home village), before a wake at West Kent Golf Club nearby. We will post further information on the EFRA and IFMAR websites when it becomes available.
We will surely realise that our lives are so much poorer without the presence of a man with Ted’s stature and wisdom. We are blessed to have known him - and are unlikely to see the like of him again. He had been involved from the beginnings of RC Car racing, and was rightly considered to be the father of the sport. He had been a personal and long time friend to so many people around the world and his name will always be remembered with the utmost of respect.
Ted had been my valued friend for over thirty years, and I cannot tell you how sorry I am to bring you this news.
Yours sincerely,
Gary Culver
EFRA Hon Life Vice President
